3 Wise Monkeys, Khar?s brand new pub scores higher points than it normally would, just for its timing. With the neighbourhood?s favourite Wtf! now shuttered, the stretch of Khar around the station was back to being surrounded by cows and seedy hotels, the dull and pub-needy.
And then last Monday, 3 Wise Monkeys and its adjoining seafood restaurant Twisted Fish opened, hoping to lure drinkers with international beer served in barrels and glass globes. We have a couple pass pour vous ?you + your beer belly.

Imp Business

We walked through the already forlorn-looking seafood restaurant Twisted Fish at The Unicontinental, to get to the bar. We strolled in to find a relaxed English pub-inspired setting, with wall-to-floor wooden paneling, lights shaped like the tops of Victorian lamp posts, beer barrels and a railway clock. Just as soon as we noticed the framed silver gun hung proudly on one wall, incongruous-with-the-setting techno music blared through the speakers. Shoot us now!

Let Us Just Pint Out

Here, you?ll find the usual Indian and international spirits at super reasonable prices (small Teacher?s for Rs 150, Grey Goose for Rs 200). There?s also a list of international beer including Peroni, Hoegaarden, Asahi, but alas no Guinness that we were promised. The fun bit is that beer is served in cool globes, and starting this weekend, in 2.5 litre barrels that sit at your table and 5 litre ones that will be suspended above you, and can be accessed by pulling on a rope.

The food list is a mix of starters including kebabs, fries and tikkas, and if you want a proper meal, there?s also Chinese food, risotto and pasta. In predictable teething problem news, they didn?t have all the dishes on opening night. So on the staff?s recommendation, we got crispy chilli potatoes, beer-battered wedges, mutton lemon tikka, paneer chilli, and washed everything down with chilled pints of beer.

The crispy chilli potatoes (Rs 160) with fried garlic was flavourful and a great companion for our mugs. But after this, there wasn?t much to cheer about. The mutton (Rs 180), coated with a pasty red masala, was super chewy and served with a chutney-dip that was way too spicy. The paneer chilli (Rs 180) with sliced capsicum and soy sauce-based semi-dry gravy wasn?t spectacular, nor were the chunky beer-battered potato wedges (Rs 140) that were carelessly under-seasoned. Even the simple dessert plate of canned lychees (we suggest seasonal fruit options so they can be served fresh) with vanilla ice cream (Rs 110) was so blah.

Do it for Drinks

Okay so the music made us want to shoot ourselves, but with more feedback that can be changed. The food here isn?t great, but you can always fill up at home. The important thing is that the drinks are cheap, a city sighting as rare as 3 Wise Monkeys getting a beer.
